Answers

Q. What is VNA TeleCare™?
A. VNA TeleCare™—a service of the Visiting Nurse Association—offers daily in-home medical monitoring for patients with serious health conditions to detect subtle changes in health status.

Q. Is VNA TeleCare hard to use?
A. A patient with the alertness, dexterity and mobility to make a phone call should be able to use VNA TeleCare—it’s that simple!

Q. What does VNA TeleCare monitor?
A. VNA TeleCare monitors blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate and rhythms, lung capacity, oxygen levels, temperature, weight and many other vital signs.

Q. Who looks at my vital signs?
A. A VNA Advanced Practice Nurse is stationed at a receiving monitor. They interpret TeleCare data and take action when necessary. The TeleCare nurses know your medical history and your doctor.

Q. What if something is wrong?
A. When the VNA TeleCare nurse detects a change in your condition, they will call you to ask questions and take appropriate action like calling your doctor, having you take the pre-prescribed medications, or having you retake your vital signs.

Q. Does a nurse still come to the home?
A. Yes, VNA nurse periodically visits the home to spend time with the patient and make sure that TeleCare is being used properly. VNA TeleCare is not a substitute for in-person home healthcare. Often times VNA TeleCare is used in conjunction with other home healthcare services.

Q. How much does VNA TeleCare cost?
A. VNA TeleCare is free to qualified patients of the Visiting Nurse Association. There is no equipment purchase or rent. No set up or maintenance charges. No monthly fee. And as a patient of VNA, you are eligible for a wide array of other convenient home healthcare services that can keep you safe, more comfortable and healthy at home.

Q. Does TeleCare require a doctor’s order or prescription?
A. The VNA can talk with you and your physician to see if VNA TeleCare is right for you or a loved one. The VNA can help you access this service. Patients must be under the care of the Visiting Nurse Association thru physician referral and must meet specific criteria to be eligible for the TeleCare program.
